For over a decade, James Grant has established himself as a leader within the hospitality field with numerous celebrated bar programs to his credit. Beginning his career at a small pub in London, James quickly fell in love with hosting guests and ensuring that they're evenings were improved by sitting at his bar. Returning to Canada in 2013, James immersed himself in the world of cocktail bars and competition bartending, honing his craft and pushing himself beyond his limits. In 2021 he was named Diageo World Class Global Bartender of the Year, and was named Canadian Bartender of the Year by Canada's 100 Best Bars in 2022. In 2023, he stepped into the role of Beverage Director for the Historic Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, and set about modernizing and elevating its beverage program. In that time, he has overseen several bars, including the beloved Library bar, currently in its 6th decade of service. Under his oversight, Library Bar has been twice ranked Top 10 International Hotel Bar at Tales of the Cocktails Spirited Awards (2023 & 2024), Best Hotel Bar in Canada (2025), No. 51 on 50 Best Bars North America, And No. 6 Best Bar in Canada by Canada's 100 Best Bars. James is driven by a passion for caring for his guests and by the privilege for working alongside his exceptional bar teams.
